When you’re practicing for your next match, you know that you want to be at your best game. But how can practicing against a wall help, especially when a partner can give you real feedback? Well, it’s pretty simple- practicing against a wall can improve your muscle memory, help with consistency and control, and even help you to practice on your own schedule.

Improving Your Muscle Memory With A Wall

Without a partner, you’ve got all the time you need to work on your perfect shot. And the more you practice that, the better you’ll be. Your muscles will remember the way to move, the way that the shot is formed. All in all, it’s incredibly helpful to perfect your motions throughout the court, and helps you practice how much power to put behind the swing as well as what time to hit the ball during the swing.

Consistency & Control

Consistency drills are something that needs to be practiced a lot. They’re crucial to your tennis game, and can easily affect your scores- having consistent control over the ball will win you more matches than you can count, but sometimes the drills are hard to run with a partner (or, your partner doesn’t want to run any more- in which case, you’ll both lose out). When practicing a consistency drill against the wall, though, you don’t have to contend with a partner trying to practice too. The ball will just come straight back to you, and you can try again easily.

Building Your Practice Session

But the best thing- especially in a day and age of social distancing- is that when you’re not actually practicing with another person, you’re free to make whatever schedule you want to make sure that you’re covering the skills you need. When you practice with another person, you’ve got to work around their needs and schedules, but when your practice partner is quite literally a wall, you practice whenever you want.
