Picking the right outfit is crucial in tennis. You want something you feel comfortable playing in, and also something that’ll make a statement on the court. Different clothes can help prevent muscle cramps, sore muscles, and even more. So when you’re on the court, what do you want to jump for- a skort, or a skirt?

Skirts

Tennis skirts are very traditional. As long as it’s been being played professionally, female athletes have been wearing skirts to play tennis. Unlike skorts, skirts don’t include a built-in pair of shorts, so there’s always the opportunity for a stray wind to blow the fabric up. However, skirts aren’t required while playing, and might be overshadowed by their counterpart, the skort.

Skorts

First of all, it might be helpful to explain what a skort is. Skorts are pretty similar to skirts, but they include a pair of shorts underneath. The word skort is actually a portmanteau of “skirt” and “shorts”. This hidden pair of shorts can help alleviate muscle aches, prevent cramps, and make it easier to cool down after a workout. Moreover, the divided legs on a skort provide actually more flexibility and range of movement, whereas with a skirt you’d need to be constantly on guard about whether or not it might fly up.

Different Types of Skorts

There are usually two types of skorts to be found on the market- some that are basically skirts with shorts underneath, and some that are more akin to shorts, with a fabric flap over the front to superficially resemble a tight skirt. While they’re often shorter than skirts, skorts more than make up for it with the provided shorts underneath.

Making the Choice

So if you’re looking to choose between skirts or skorts, the decision is very much in your court. While skirts are very traditional, they’re prone to causing embarrassment. Skorts, while often shorter than their counterparts, allow for ease of movement and a range of flexibility without worry.
