Three Unusual Tennis Drills To Try With Your Child
Posted in: Blog | Published on: February 27, 2023 | Written By: adminWhen your child wants to become better at tennis, it can be difficult to know how to help them. If you’re looking for new drills, look no further! It’s important to keep your child engaged throughout the whole process of learning, and by introducing new drills into their weekly routines, you can do just that. Here are three great drills to try with your child, all of which are guaranteed to increase their tennis prowess.
Catch Me If You Can
This drill focuses on keeping your student’s eye on the ball as they travel the court. To perform it, have your child stand on the service line with a racket in hand. You’re going to be on the other side of the net, tossing the tennis ball to them. Throw your student the ball, and they’ll hit it back over the net with their racket. Then see if you can catch the ball! When you’ve completed one round of Catch Me If You Can, switch places with your child so that they’re the one throwing, and you’re the one with the racket.
Nothing But Net
This drill can help ensure that your child’s patterns aren’t too predictable. Play a regular game with your student, but if a shot lands in the service box, the person who didn’t make the shot has to make their approach and finish off the point at the net. If that person wins at the net, they get two points– but if they lose, the score doesn’t change. This can encourage your child to mix it up and get aggressive as they play.
Alley Cats
This drill can help your child learn to play in a confined space. That is, this game is played entirely within the alley! Play a regular game, but only on the doubles alley. This can help your student learn control over their ball and a little bit of finesse with their shots. Remember to switch sides of the court regularly to ensure that your child can play well no matter where they’re standing.
Help Your Child Learn By Introducing New Drills
If your child wants to become better at tennis, the only surefire way is to practice! There are plenty of drills to perform, and the best way to keep your kiddos engaged with learning the game is to mix it up every once and a while. These three drills are great exercises to build skills with your student and can help make learning fun.
