Assistant Coaching: A Job That Needs To Be Well Done
Posted in: Blog | Published on: January 21, 2021 | Written By: adminAssistant coaches are almost as important as the head coach in the world of tennis. After all, it’s assistant coaches that work one-on-one with the players and help them to succeed in their tennis dreams, and their work should reflect an earnest desire to help players learn. At EuroTennis, assistant coaches are important and needed- it’s a great workplace for both beginners in the coaching world and longtime assistant coaches.
Tips About Assistant Coaching
But assistant coaching isn’t always something that comes easy- sometimes, you need a push to get you started in the right direction. Here’s some ideas on how to be the best assistant coach you could possibly be.
Loyalty Is Key
While a head coach might get all the attention, this is no time to be jealous! A good assistant coach remains loyal to their team and their school, no matter what the head coach says, and never goes behind anyone’s back. An assistant coach should do everything in their power to follow the head coach, and uphold the values of the school and the team.
Looks Matter
Nobody’s going to follow an assistant coach who very clearly doesn’t want to be there! Set a good example for players by listening when someone speaks, whether it’s the head coach, a parent, or even a player, and make sure that you’re using behaviors that you want your students to emulate, both on and off the court.
Pay Attention To Your Players
If you keep in touch with your players, you’ll understand them better, and be able to teach them from a better perspective. Encourage the kids who aren’t doing so great just as much as you’d encourage one of your best players. Talk to players to see what they’re struggling with, so that you know how to best address their issues. And, if one of your players comes to you with a problem, listen to them and try to help.
